OPTICIANS
The College of Opticians of Ontario has implemented their new Quality Assurance Program.  With this new program, Opticians are now required to prepare a portfolio at the end of each year.  Please refer to the College’s website at www.coptont.org for further details.

OPTOMETRIC ASSISTANTS
The CE cycle end date for Optometric Assistants is 3 years from your certification renewal date. Visit www.opto.ca for further information.

Q. How many continuing education hours do I need?

OPTOMETRISTS
Optometrists are required to obtain a minimum of 70 hours of continuing education during each 3-year cycle. Of the 70 hours, a minimum of 50 ‘Category A’ hours and 20 ‘Category A’ or ‘Category B’ hours are required.  Of the 50 Category A hours, a minimum of 20 hours must be on topics directly related to TPA’s.

AOE is an official COPE-approved provider of ‘Class A’ continuing education.

OPTICIANS
Each year, Opticians must complete a Professional Portfolio. As part of the Portfolio requirements, Opticians must complete a combined total of 16 continuing education hours annually, which includes:
– 8 accredited CE hours (4 hours specific to contact lens (CL) technology and 4 hours specific to eyeglass (EG) technology
– 8 self-directed CE hours that are directly linked to a learning goal

Opticians who have a refracting designation are required to submit two additional CE hours specific to refraction (RF).

OPTOMETRIC ASSISTANTS
Optometric Assistants are required to obtain a minimum of 18 hours of continuing education during each 3-year cycle.

Q. I was unable to attend a seminar. Can I get a refund?

If you cancelled your registration before our registration deadline, then a 100% refund is applicable. If you cancelled your registration after our deadline date, our policy is ‘no cancellations, refunds, credits or transfers.’
