Most cataracts develop when aging or injury changes the tissue that makes up the eye’s lens. Some cataracts are caused by inherited genetic disorders that cause other health problems and increase a patient’s risk of cataracts. These days we are bombarded with advancements in progressive lens technology, high-index lenses and antiglare coatings. The industry has come a long way in the past 50 years. When dispensing multifocals, we should not forget about all the other multifocal lenses that previously existed and are still at our disposal today. This correspondence course takes you back in time and documents the progress we have made from our humble beginnings.

Traditional versus free form surfacing and the importance of technology and lens design will also be discussed.

Piggyback Contact Lens Fitting for Keratoconus | 1 Self-Directed Hour
Piggyback lenses have become an excellent option in the management of keratoconus. Modern contact materials have enabled practitioners to apply this two-lens system with little risk of hypoxia to the patient. The piggyback system enables patients to remain in contact lenses for longer periods safely and comfortably without switching contact lens modalities or requiring corneal surgery.  This correspondence course guides you through the several categories of patients who can benefit from the piggyback system, the drawbacks of piggyback lenses, which contact lenses to choose and fitting assessment.
