Jeffrey Sher

MD, FRCSC

Dr. Sher has practiced ophthalmology in Hamilton since 1985, specializing in surgical treatment of diseases of the cornea and anterior segment of the eye.�� He operates out of St Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, and holds an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at McMaster University. He teaches ophthalmology residents & medical students, and serves on the Resident Education Committee for the ophthalmology residency training program. He is director of the cornea & external disease teaching program at McMaster, and was awarded the "Clinical Teacher of the Year" award in 2008-2009. A graduate of the University of Toronto's medical school and ophthalmology program, Dr. Sher completed additional training in glaucoma at Tufts University in Boston. He also studied cornea and external disease at the University of California in San Diego. He is an active member of numerous medical associations & societies. He is the past Chief of the Department of Eye Medicine & Surgery at Hamilton Health Sciences. He has served as Chair of the Ontario Medical Association Section on Ophthalmology, President of the Association of Ontario Ophthalmologists and Chair of the Hamilton Academy of Medicine Section of Ophthalmology. He is a past Medical Director of the Hamilton Laser Eye Institute, and a past board member of the CNIB- Ontario Division. Dr. Sher is an enthusiastic supporter of the CNIB Eye Van program. Dr. Bill Hunter, the founder of the project, recruited him in 1984 to help serve patients� in Northern Ontario, & he has volunteered yearly on the CNIB Eye Van since that time.� He continues to serve on the CNIB� Eye Van Medical Advisory Committee.
