Widely regarded as one of the leading international eye surgeons, Dr. John Berdahl makes his team, patients and family his top priority. Within our walls, he is known for his clarity of thought, connecting with patients and delivering on the trust people place in him. As a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Berdahl is one of the few surgeons in the United States who is also fellowship-trained in cornea, glaucoma and refractive surgery. His extensive published work has primarily focused on the fundamental causes of glaucoma, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and astigmatism management during and after cataract surgery. He has been involved in numerous FDA-monitored clinical trials on some of the most exciting technologies in ophthalmology. In addition to over 45 peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Berdahl has completed over 35 book chapters, hundreds of presentations at national and international meetings and has participated in 37 FDA clinical trials. Dr. Berdahl is exceptionally skilled at diagnosing and creating suitable treatment plans for varying stages of glaucoma, corneal diseases, and cataracts. He is also a meticulous refractive surgeon. Dr. Berdahl is equipped to employ the most innovative and tested techniques available to effectively treat most diseases of the anterior segment (front part of the eye). Dr. Berdahl lives in Sioux Falls, SD. He is a devoted husband to his wife, Tamme, and a dedicated father to his son, Tommy, and daughter, Anabel. Dr. Berdahl is an avid reader and writer and enjoys doing both during his free time. He continues to enjoy caring for the underserved both locally and on mission trips worldwide.
