Today, the spectrum of management of ocular surface diseases has expanded vastly to include the use of amniotic membranes, scleral lenses, intense pulse light, radio frequency and more. This lecture will outline the thorough diagnostic process to understanding the root cause of dry eye disease, how to incorporate technologies into your clinic, how to determine the appropriate treatment plan for your patients, as well as the importance of nutrition.

Neurologic Dry Eye

This lecture reviews the neurosensory pathways of dry eye and the pathophysiological overlap with neuropathic pain and photophobia. Emphasis will be placed on differentiating primary dry eye disease from secondary dry eye disease and neuropathic pain to aid in appropriate diagnosis, triage, referral and treatment. Neurologic and psychiatric disorders are reviewed, including chronic pain syndrome, TBI, chronic migraine, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease, anxiety and depression.
