Dr. Rana Taji, OD, MSc, FAAO
This lecture provides a comprehensive overview of the optician’s role in the recognition, triage and co-management of dry eye disease (DED). This course outlines the epidemiology, symptom profile and pathophysiology of DED, emphasizing the impact of tear film instability on visual quality. This course reviews practical in-office strategies for identifying dry eye in patients presenting with visual complaints, including the use of validated questionnaires, triage questions and retail therapies. It also highlights diagnostic technologies such as osmolarity testing, meibography and inflammatory marker detection and presents a spectrum of treatment options ranging from home therapies to advanced in-office procedures.
