PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
An Optician's Role in Ocular Surface Disease Management
Dr. Rana Taji, OD, MSc, FAAO
This lecture provides a comprehensive overview of the optician’s role in the recognition, triage and co-management of dry eye disease (DED). This course outlines the epidemiology, symptom profile and pathophysiology of DED, emphasizing the impact of tear film instability on visual quality. This course reviews practical in-office strategies for identifying dry eye in patients presenting with visual complaints, including the use of validated questionnaires, triage questions and retail therapies. It also highlights diagnostic technologies such as osmolarity testing, meibography and inflammatory marker detection and presents a spectrum of treatment options ranging from home therapies to advanced in-office procedures. Multiple case studies will illustrate real-world application of dry eye assessments and treatments, reinforcing the importance of communication, patient education and interprofessional collaboration to optimize visual outcomes.

Primary Open Angle Glaucoma: An Update
Dr. Mark Eltis, OD, FAAO, Dipl. ABO
The understanding, diagnosis and management of glaucoma have advanced far beyond the earlier belief that it is solely a disease of elevated eye pressure. This presentation emphasizes the significance of non-IOP factors and demonstrates how modern imaging and therapeutic strategies are applied in primary open-angle glaucoma, with discussion of how these developments relate to everyday clinical practice.
