Rosa Braga Mele

MD, FRCSC

Dr. Rosa Braga-Mele is a Professor of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada. She is involved in the resident surgical teaching curriculum development and implementation at the University of Toronto and has won multiple teaching awards. She is a cataract specialist and educator who speaks frequently at both the national and international level. She is Director of Cataract Surgery at the Kensington Eye Institute, Toronto, Canada. Dr. Braga-Mele graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Ottawa Medical School. She then completed her residency at the University of Toronto. She went on to complete her Masters Degree in Higher Education. She was given the AAO Achievement Award in 2007 and the AAO Secretariat Award in 2012 for special contributions to Ophthalmology. In 2013, she was awarded the AAO Senior Achievement Award for distinguished volunteer service. She has been an actively involved member of ASCRS for the last 14 years and currently serves as the Chair of the Cataract Clinical Committee for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and is a member of the Governing Board and Program Committee for the ASCRS.
